Camp Don Lee has, for over 20 years partnered with Pitt County Memorial Hospital and the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC to host two very exciting camps. One result of this very special partnership is Camp Rainbow and is provided for children with cancer and other blood disorders. The other special camp experience offered at Camp Don Lee in partnership with the hospital and school of medicine is called Camp Hope and it offers a full camping experience for children diagnosed with Sickle Cell disease.

These two partner camps have brought a message of hope and goodness of life to children who have spent much of their life in a hospital, clinic or doctor’s office. These children, who have been very sick really appreciate being able to come to camp and participate in its many offerings while also receiving the medical support that this partnership offers. These very special children come to Camp Don Lee and claim a profoundly powerful affirmation for the gift of life.

Other medical camps available at Camp Don Lee include partnerships with the medical community servicing acute asthma and heart disease. These are not only fun camps for the children, but also, programming enrichment is provided for the patients’ families as well. Camp “Whole Heart” is growing to serve in its fourth year a group of children who have had some kind of open heart surgery. Active and high energy activities with these campers are only possible with the strong medical support of the medical community from Pitt County Memorial Hospital and the Brody School of Medicine.
