My dad had gone to celebrate his mother’s birthday with her the weekend I went to camp for the very first time ever. I was a very excited eight-year old but the closer the actual date of my arrival to camp got, the more anxious I got.

Robert first worked as a counselor in the summer of 1993. Then, in 1995, he was the program director all year round. I was there the summer of 1995 and 1996 as a counselor. So we met the Summer of 1995. I knew there was something different about Robert immediately, and I soon found out it was Jesus. You can always tell when someone has been redeemed.

Each day begins with Morning Watch and ends with small group vespers. A new beginning can be realized through quiet meditation as the sun rises over the Neuse River. And, a hushed reflection with the small group in the evening can bring about spiritual revelation and oneness with God as the night settles in over camp.

Camp Don Lee was founded in 1947 when Don E. Lee, Sr. gave a parcel of land to the Methodist Church to build a camp for boys and girls. Camp Don Lee has evolved now into Don Lee Center and hosts three main program areas.
